How Sweet it is!

Stephen Tyminski, founder of Sweet Ashley’s Ice Cream, on the corner of East Ave. and Van Zant St., named the place after his first daughter when she was just one. That was over 30 years ago, and he’s been making ice cream here ever since.
Even before that, Steve owned two ice cream stores for years – in Stratford and New Canaan.
In East Norwalk, “we started off slow, then it was ‘yo’.” says Steve. “Everybody thinks I’m the smartest guy in the world. No. It’s the kids here.  If the customers like the help, the rest will take care of itself. And social media — that’s how people look at everything. So we’ve been doing this for 30 years, making the flavors that people want, trying to keep them happy. We have the most fun with our customers because they know eventually they’re going to get their flavor.”
“Our most popular flavor – besides vanilla – is Cookie Monster. Little kids come in and say ‘I want the blue ice cream’. We’re also making a Salty Sailor – vanilla, Oreos and caramel swirl. We also make a Walk In The Rain – coconut ice cream with pineapple. We didn’t make up these names – our customers did. Kids think of it. They come up with unique combinations of things. We just write it down. The newest one we have is Fruity Pebbles. Come by and try it!
